Hi, I’m Dr Michaelia.
I’m Dr Michaelia (MBBS, FRACGP), a medical doctor, educator and author who advocates for and supports people living with chronic invisible illness.
Many of the people I help experience persistent, complex symptoms that don’t fit neatly into a single diagnosis. These symptoms can affect multiple parts of the body and are often confusing or overwhelming. I help people make sense of what’s happening, supporting both physical health and nervous system regulation along the way.
My work is shaped by both clinical experience and my own lived understanding of healing. It is grounded in empathy, hope and a respect for the body’s innate capacity to restore health when given the right conditions.
My Clinical Focus
I have a particular clinical interest in conditions involving autonomic nervous system dysfunction and immune dysregulation, including:
Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS)
Dysautonomia
Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS)
Chronic invisible illness with overlapping or unclear diagnoses
These conditions are often multi-system, fluctuating and influenced by a range of biological, environmental and lifestyle factors. Supporting them well requires a whole-person, integrative approach.
How I approach care
My approach integrates medical assessment with a whole-person understanding of health.
Alongside clinical evaluation, I consider how factors such as nervous system regulation, circadian rhythms, nutrition, lifestyle and the impact of prolonged stress or illness may be influencing symptoms. Rather than focusing on isolated issues, I work with patients to recognise patterns over time and support the body gently and respectfully.
Working together
I work collaboratively with patients and where appropriate, alongside their existing healthcare providers.
My role is to help make sense of complex presentations, integrate information across systems and support the development of thoughtful, personalised care plans that evolve over time. I provide care with an emphasis on clarity, trust and restoring confidence in the body’s capacity to adapt and heal.
